About us

What is Hawkesbury Community Outreach Services?

HCOS operates in the Hawkesbury region, approximately 75km northwest of Sydney. We’re based at the Kurrajong Community Centre, Mcmahons Road, Kurrajong. HCOS works with groups of participants who live in the Hawkesbury local government area (LGA), or with participants who share a common identity within the Hawkesbury, to provide a diverse range of community services and programs, with a particular focus on disadvantaged members. Our services extend across the entire Hawkesbury LGA, to both urban and isolated areas – Bilpin, Blaxlands Ridge, Bowen Mountain, Central Colo, Colo Heights and Upper Colo, Ebenezer, Freeman’s Reach, Glossodia, Grose Vale, Kurmond, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, North Richmond, Richmond, Windsor and Wilberforce.

Structure

Established in 1980, HCOS is a not-for-profit organisation administrated by a voluntary management committee. As an incorporated organisation, HCOS has a constitution by which it must abide. The current HCOS constitution was adopted in 2017. Our Annual General Meetings take place annually in October. We encourage local community members to join the HCOS Committee. Many of our services work in collaboration with other services in the area.

Vision

Our vision is for an inclusive, connected, resilient community in which no person is isolated or deprived.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a quality service delivering programs and services directed toward strengthening the community, increasing community connectedness, well being, safety and knowledge.

Aims

  • To act as a hub for local community activities, services and programs, to ensure that the service is operated on a community basis
  • To encourage community participation
  • To identify community needs and where possible and appropriate, initiate, develop and operate programs to meet those needs and as a resource to members of the community
  • To raise awareness of issues identified by our community and advocate on their behalf where relevant
  • To network with other services or agencies, working toward positive outcomes for the community
  • To maintain relative services and sustainable funding.

Who helps HCOS to do our work?

HCOS is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity. Our funding from NSW Family & Community Services enables us to minimise pricing for activities and events run by the Team. We don’t have fees as such, but for some activities we do ask for a small contribution.
